January Book Haul

book display

I accumulated quite a few new books in January, either from friends (thank you, Linda!) or from impulsive Amazon shopping, so I thought I would share them with you all. I also must admit that these books put my collection over capacity—time to buy another bookshelf!

  1. Inheritance (The Inheritance Cycle #4) by Christopher Paolini
I already own Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr, so I just needed this last book to complete the series. I read the first three books in high school, but never got around to reading the final installment when it was eventually released. I recall this series being incredibly imaginative and immersive, so I would love to re-read it from the beginning. Plus, it was only $12 on Amazon!

  2. Children of Virtue and Vengeance (Legacy of Orisha #2) by Tomi Adeyemi
I haven’t read the first book in this series (Children of Blood and Bone), but these two have been ranking pretty high on the young adult bestsellers lists. I bought the first book last month for $10 on Amazon, and then saw that the second book was only $12 (clearly I am a sucker for book bargains on Amazon).

  3. The Selection Series (box set) by Kiera Cass
I couldn’t help myself—it was only $22 on Amazon for the box set of all five books! When I worked at Barnes & Noble, I remember this being one of our more popular young adult fantasy and adventure series. Although I probably won’t commit to starting a new series anytime soon, I do plan on getting to it eventually.

  4. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
I don’t normally venture out of my comfy young adult corner (unless it involves psychology-related nonfiction), but for under $10, I thought I’d give this one a try. The story follows two timelines that slowly intertwine, and it has topped the fiction bestseller lists for months.

  5. City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) 10th Anniversary Edition by Cassandra Clare
This is one of my all-time favorite young adult fantasy series! If you haven’t already, go read it now! I will most definitely re-read all six of these books in the future, which is why I was down to purchase this collectible 10th anniversary edition of the first installment. Collectible editions have piqued my interest lately, so I decided to test the waters with this $15 copy on Amazon.

  6. Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1) 10th Anniversary Edition by Cassandra Clare
This series is set in the same universe as the Mortal Instruments, but I have yet to read this trilogy. However, it beautifully matches the City of Bones collectible copy, so I had to splurge and get the Clockwork Angel 10th anniversary edition for $18 on Amazon.

  7. Reverie by Ryan La Sala
These last four books were so kindly given to me by my friend who works at Barnes & Noble. Reverie was the Barnes & Noble young adult book club choice for January, and my friend received a copy to read since she facilitated the book club meeting. I’ve seen this cover all over the book accounts on Instagram, so I am very excited to read it!

  8. Bob by Wendy Mass
This adorable children’s book tells the story of Livy, who is returning to visit her grandmother in Australia after five years. When she gets there, she encounters a short greenish creature dressed in a chicken suit who claims to have been waiting for Livy to return all this time, just as she promised she would. I don’t read many children’s books, but I think this one would make a great, quick one- or two-day-long read.

  9. An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green
This was a Barnes & Noble book club selection a while back, and the cover always stood out to me. It is Hank Green’s debut novel (recognize the name? That’s because his brother is none other than famous YA author John Green). If he is half as talented as his brother, this one will definitely make an exciting read!

  10. The Confessions of Frannie Langton by Sara Collins
This murder mystery is set in Edwardian England. Frannie is on trial for murder, but cannot remember the details of the crime of which she is accused. I don’t pick up many mystery books, so I’m eager to branch out of my comfort zone with this one.
