Books I Read in 2018

In April, I set an unrealistic goal to read 52 books before the end of the year. I soon learned this was a terrible idea as I was knee deep in wedding planning, working two jobs, and about to start an accelerated master’s program. In this blog post, I changed the goal to 25 books and used my Barnes and Noble employee discount like there was no tomorrow. And oh so quickly, the year is at a close. Let’s see how I lived up to my expectations, shall we?

This year I read…19 books! Not quite on goal, but definitely the most books I’ve read in a single year since high school. Here’s the roundup, in order of completion:

*These are the books I would not necessarily consider “must reads”, although they were still fairly good. All other books on the list were amazing and worthy of your attention. Based on these books, I have crafted a list that will help you decide which one you want to read next!

If you like YA Fantasy (e.g. Harry Potter), you should read… The Mortal Instruments Series (starting with City of Bones) by Cassandra Clare.

If you like dystopian fiction, you should read… Vox by Christina Dalcher (adult fiction) or The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken (YA fantasy/fiction).

If you like historical narratives, you should read… Columbine by Dave Cullen.

If you like quick, feel-good books for women, you should read… Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis.

The goal for next year is 30 books! Since I’ll be working less and have an open summer, I’m confident that this is an attainable goal. Keep an eye out for my upcoming post listing the books I want to read in 2019. In the meantime, I need suggestions!
