Howdy Baby Box | Subscription Box Review

Howdy Baby Box, created by Three Yellow Starfish, is a subscription box of specially curated items for you and your little one featuring products sold by small businesses in the USA. The Howdy Baby Box is designed for babies and toddlers ages newborn to two years old. The Howdy Kids Box is designed for kids ages two to six years old. For both age ranges, you choose your child’s gender and clothing size so that the items will be perfectly suited for your little one. As an option, you can also enter your child’s birthdate during checkout so that items included are even more specific to their developmental needs.

Three Yellow Starfish was kind enough to send me this month’s Howdy Baby Box to review. The opinions in this post are completely my own and in no way influenced by Three Yellow Starfish. Little Lincoln and I have spent the past week trying out every product included and here are my thoughts!

toddler outfit

1. Sunshine Dino Tee | Stalling & Sons | $22

This is now, hands down, the softest shirt in Lincoln’s closet! I am definitely impressed by the quality of the material and iron-on design. Would I pay $22 for it? Not for my ever-growing toddler, but the fact that it is included in this subscription box makes it absolutely worth it. So far, it’s holding up to stains too (thank you, OxyClean stain remover stick!).

2. Solid Navy Blue Joggers | Jena Bug Baby Boutique | $14

Like the shirt, these joggers are buttery soft and made of a lightweight material. They’re perfect for the transition weather from summer to fall, and have a very stylish fit. They pair perfectly with the shirt included, as well as most every other shirt my toddler owns due to the neutral color of the joggers. These will be a wardrobe staple once the weather starts cooling down, that’s for sure!

3. Eucalyptus Fizzies | FizzBizz | $12

This 3-pack of shower fizzies is scented with eucalyptus and menthol, along with other essential oils. Simply pop the fizzie into the shower so it can get wet, but not in the direct stream of water, and enjoy as the soothing smells fill the air. I used this after a long week of taking care of Lincoln on my own while Austin was at work. After I put him to bed, I had a nice long shower using one of these fizzies, completed an extended skin-care routine, and made a spa night out of it. These are perfect for any parent needing a relaxing night (in other words, all parents).

4. Dinosaur Crayon Set | Crazy Crayons | $5

Lincoln has been obsessed with dinosaurs this past month, so he flipped his lid when he saw these dino-shaped crayons. I love that they are fun and multicolored, made 100% from recycled crayons through the National Crayon Recycle Program. As your little one draws using different dinosaur crayons, or even different sides of the same dino, it produces a colorful masterpiece (yes, all my toddler’s creations are masterpieces).

5. How to Catch a Dinosaur | Sourcebooks | $11

We’ve had this book for just a week, but I think I’ve memorized every word already. We have it sitting on Link’s front-facing bookshelf in his room and he insists on reading it every time he spots the dinosaur tail on the cover. My only critique is that this book was supplied through the independent publisher, Sourcebooks, but I think it would be even better if books for each subscription box were selected from various indie bookstores across the USA.

6. Bee Baby Moisturizer | Sister Bees LLC | $7

Not gonna lie, I took one look at this tiny tin of balm and thought it would last just a couple days. Boy, was I wrong! It only takes the smallest amount to cover Link’s whole booty during each diaper change. I’ve gotten at least 10 uses out of it so far, and I’d estimate I still have about 30% of the product left. I don’t use this for every change, just when his diaper rash flares up, which seems to be more often than not with all these new baby teeth coming in! It goes on clear and soaks into his skin better than any other diaper cream or ointment I’ve ever used and works just as well as Desitin at treating diaper rash. We tried putting this on his eczema spots as well, but it did not work as well as our Eucerin cream. I would definitely buy this in the future, especially since it’s created by three women who actually tend to their own beehives and make the products themselves!

7. Quote Keeper Ring | Inklings Paperie | $16

The Quote Keeper Ring contains 36 quote cards and a mini pencil, making it easy for parents to quickly jot down those hilarious things your kiddo says. Although we’re at the point in Lincoln’s language development where all he has to say is “poop” and we think it’s hilarious, this isn’t exactly quote-worthy. However, I know we’re getting close! For your toddlers and early elementary kiddos who just say the craziest things (seriously, how do they come up with some of this stuff??), this Quote Keeper Ring is a great item to keep handy and look back on later in life.

8. Dino Sticker Set | Nightly Doodles | $6

Two stickers were included in this subscription box—one dinosaur and one that says “Brave”. These are very high-quality as far as stickers are concerned, not to mention absolutely adorable! Link was ecstatic when he saw the dinosaur, so I’m going to have find the perfect place to stick it (before he decides to stick it somewhere less than desirable!). For these cute stickers designed and produced by @JenipherLyn, $3 each is totally worth it.

9. Southern Baby Lotion | Lavender Thorne | $15

Like the Bee Baby Moisturizer mentioned previously, this little jar of lotion goes a lonnnnnnnnggg way! By just opening it and using the excess that sticks to the lid, I got about three uses out of it without even digging into the actual container yet. And by three uses, I’m talking head-to-toe toddler coverage. This stuff is ultra-moisturizing, and my little one loves looking through his favorite book while I take a few minutes to massage it into his arms and legs. Yet another bonus is that this company was founded by two strong mamas who prioritize the use of all-natural ingredients.

10. Stuff I Want To Manifest | Warm Human | $3.50

I’m not much of the manifesting, meditating type (although I probably should every now and then to slow down my go-go-go daily schedule). This company offers different options as part of their “Stuff I Want To Manifest” line. Included in this subscription box is the “At least one decent night of good sleep” option, which is very fitting for any parent, along with specific instructions for manifesting more sleep.

Everything included in this Howdy Baby Box totaled over $110 in retail price, which is almost double the actual price of the subscription. The Howdy Baby Box is available in multiple subscription options: monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly. No matter the subscription schedule, each box is just $60. You can also purchase a one-time box for yourself or as a gift for someone else for $65. So for this particular month’s box, you’d receive all these products for nearly 50% off the retail price. Not a bad deal! Note that shipping is a flat $9 fee per box.

When it comes to subscription boxes, I weigh in a few different factors: subscription price, total retail value of items, quality of products, usefulness of products, and overarching concept. Overall, I think the Howdy Baby Box perfectly balanced their subscription price with the retail price of items included—getting these products for nearly half-off is a fantastic deal. Furthermore, the quality of the products is top-notch, which is not surprising considering all items are supplied by USA-based small businesses. As for the usefulness of the products, this will vary from person to person. Personally, I could see myself regularly using 7/10 of the products included (8/10 if you include the one-time use stickers). For a subscription box, which usually consists of an incredibly eclectic collection of products, 8/10 is basically an A+ if we’re assigning grades. Plus, I can always re-gift the other two items to parents I think may enjoy them more than myself. The overarching concept of the Howdy Baby Box is fantastic—it contains a themed assortment of goodies for the parent, the child, and for both to enjoy together. The collection of products is well-balanced, high-quality, and supports small businesses in the USA. I would highly recommend this subscription box!
