Oh Baby Boxes | Subscription Box Review

oh baby boxes

Full disclosure, because I’m all about being honest and transparent with my readers: The Oh Baby Boxes company was kind enough to reach out and send over a complementary subscription box for me to review. The thoughts and feedback in this post are completely my own and in no way influenced by the Oh Baby Boxes company.

Oh Baby Boxes is a company that caters exclusively to expecting and new moms. They provide a monthly subscription box filled with over $100 worth of goodies customized to your due date. According to the company, each product included in these boxes is extensively researched, tested, and vetted by their team for efficacy and safety. The boxes start at $39.99 per month and can be purchased for yourself, or as a gift for another mama-to-be.

So, I’ve received the box, I’ve tried every single product inside (and boy, were there many), and now it’s time for my overall thoughts. Each box comes with a guide to what’s inside, detailing each item and their retail value, tips for pregnancy (my guide included natural remedies to prevent heartburn), and frequently asked questions about Oh Baby Boxes. So, like this guide, I will go product by product and we will see if this subscription box is truly worth it! Plus, keep scrolling for a coupon code to use on your first Oh Baby Boxes order…

What’s in the box?

hospital bag checklist

1. Hospital Checklist & Baby Tracker | Oh Baby Boxes | $0

This hospital bag checklist is one of the better ones I have come across (and I think I’ve looked over 100+ lists…). I am all about minimalism, especially when it comes to packing for a 24-48 hour hospital stay. I have seen Pinterest lists that include birth balls and diffusers and five baby outfits and diapers… The list goes on and on, and you honestly don’t need all that! The checklist included in this box is short and sweet—exactly what I need. It also includes blank spots at the bottom for you to fill out your own items to include. (I will be sure to do another post on what I packed in my hospital bag versus what I actually used. I have found this type of content to be extremely helpful for myself while preparing for baby’s arrival). On the back is a newborn tracker where you can record feeding times, diaper changes, tummy time, sleep/nap times, and medication dosages. This is a handy chart to have, but I think I’d rather just download an app that can store all this information.

belli stretchmark minimizing cream

2. Belli Stretchmark Minimizing Cream | Belli Skincare | $29

I can honestly say that, in terms of my body’s physical changes, stretch marks were one of my biggest fears going into pregnancy. (I have since learned that there are way scarier things to be afraid of…pelvic girdle pain, sciatic pain, and contractions, oh my!). Because of this, I have eagerly scooped up every belly lotion/oil/cream product I can find, and this one is no exception. I have been using this cream morning and night, as directed, in addition to the oil I apply periodically throughout the day. Although it takes a few weeks to see any results, I am eager to keep using this product. It is free of artificial dyes or fragrances, formulated to both reduce stretch marks and itchiness, and has a pleasant citrus scent. It also uses scientifically proven ingredients that help soften and moisturize while evening out overall skin tone. Yes, please!

Price review: I am enjoying this product, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the $30 price tag. Luckily, the guidebook included in the box provides a coupon code for 20% off the product (bringing it to about $24 total), which is more reasonable and comparable to similar products on the market, and a price I’d be willing to pay.

balm shell facial cleansing balm

3. Balm Shell Facial Cleansing Balm | Flower Mill | $42

This item was, hands down, my favorite in this entire box. This balm doubles as a makeup remover and cleanser that leaves your skin feeling soft to the touch. It is all-natural, organic, vegan, and contains essential oils. To use, simply massage a small amount onto your dry face and neck, wipe clean with a warm damp cloth, and pat or air dry. This balm has quickly become part of my regular skin-care routine. First, I cleanse my face as usual. Second, I use this balm. Third, I moisturize. Simple as can be, and my skin is always left feeling incredibly hydrated and silky smooth. I even used this product on my belly as a mask, then wiped it off and moisturized, and holy cow—it was exactly what my skin needed! Now I use this as a belly mask at least twice a week, in addition to incorporating it into my daily skin-care routine.

Price review: Call me frugal, but I would never pay this much for 2 oz. of facial cleanser. The guidebook includes a code for 15% off (knocking it down to $35.70), but I still think this is high enough to prevent me from paying out of my own pocket for this product. I think the most I could bring myself to spend on this is about $25. However, if you happen to have the extra cash to spend, then absolutely go for it! This product is incredible and will definitely last quite a long time despite its small size because a little goes a long way.

sheet mask

4. Lemon Slice Mask | Kocostar | $5

This is, by far, the most unique sheet mask I have ever used. Instead of one single sheet that covers your entire face, this mask contains 12 circular lemon slices that you place all over your face. The directions even suggest using leftover slices on your belly as well. At first, I wasn’t too keen on this idea since it left much of my face uncovered. However, once I removed the slices after 15 minutes, I quickly realized that I liked this method way more than a traditional sheet mask. The latter usually leave globs of product on my face after removal, even if I try to rub it in. The slices, on the other hand, leave just the right amount of product that rubs in perfectly upon removal. It left my face feeling fresh and hydrated, which is what I expect from a sheet mask.

Price review: Five bucks is completely reasonable for a sheet mask, especially when combined with the 20% off code provided in the guide. Enough said.

coconut milk bath bomb

5. Coconut Milk Bathbomb | Measurable Difference | $10

I am always down for a bath—it’s a form of self-care that I have tried to utilize more often in the past couple years. So when I found out I was pregnant, I was scared that I would have to give up this pamper session for nine whole months. But I was completely wrong because it is perfectly safe to take warm baths during pregnancy! I usually add a random cocktail of products into my tub: bath bombs, bubble bath, epsom salt, you name it. However, I wanted to test out this product with no interference, so I ran a bath with just this single bath bomb. Holy moly, it created one of the most luxurious baths I’ve ever taken. The scent is subtle, but the first word I immediately thought while smelling this bath bomb was “relaxed”. I felt perfectly relaxed, which is what I desperately need at this point in my pregnancy. Plus, when the bath was over, my skin was left silky smooth to the touch. This one is a winner!

Price review: I think any single bath bomb in the double digits is overpriced. But once again, Oh Baby Boxes swoops in with the 20% off code (now $8), making it doable in my book.

laundry detergent powder

6. 15 Load Laundry Powder | Nellie’s | $6

This laundry powder is a clean alternative to traditional detergents, which are often filled with a long list of chemicals I can’t even pronounce. This detergent has only four ingredients and is all-natural and non-toxic. It is highly concentrated, so you only need to add a tablespoon to each regular sized load. I compared this to my normal laundry detergent, Gain powder. The first thing I noticed is that the Nellie’s detergent was relatively odorless, while Gain had a strong fresh scent (which is, like I mentioned, from all those additives). I use a full cup of Gain for my high efficiency load of laundry, and two tablespoons of Nellie’s detergent. The result? My clothes felt equally clean using both products. So, you’re basically deciding between a scented concentration of chemicals and an unscented, non-toxic, cruelty-free, and biodegradable alternative. Seems like a smart switch to me, especially when baby makes his arrival!

Price review: Although this is listed as $6 in the guide, the smallest detergent pouch you can purchase on their website is the 50 load pouch for $11. For reference, my box of Gain is $10.99 and lasts for 80 loads. So, it is more expensive per load, but you have to remember that you are paying for a non-toxic alternative to the cheap main-brand options. Especially with a baby on the way, I am more willing to pay extra for clean ingredients!

xpand shoe laces

7. Xpand Original No-Tie Lacing System | Xpand | $9.99

This no-tie shoe lace system is a great solution for pregnant mamas who struggle to bend over and tie their shoes (this has been me for a couple months now!). The laces are made of stretchy materials that ensure a continuous snug fit and zero breakage or warping. Plus, there are over 40 color choices available on their website—wow! These were relatively simple to install (and this is coming from someone who hates lacing shoes…). After switching out your laces, you lace the ends through a plastic “anchor” that holds them in place. I was worried that this tiny plastic piece, which sits on the inside of the shoe if you want a no-show look, would be uncomfortable when wearing no-show socks, but I didn’t even notice it was there! Xpand laces are a pretty clever gadget for anyone wanting snug slip-on-slip-off tennis shoes, not just pregnant mamas!

Price review: $10 for a custom pair of shoe laces like these seems pretty reasonable, especially with the huge color selection. They also offer bigger savings when you buy more pairs: 3 for $25, 6 for $35, and 8 for $45. It’s a great deal if you want to stock up for the whole family! Or if you just have a huge collection of shoes…

blemish patches

8. Spotted Detoxifying Blemish Patches | Maskeraide | $6

These blemish patches are infused with salicylic acid, volcanic ash, and tea tree oil to help calm and minimize breakouts. Each sheet contains 12 small circular patches that can be applied to an irritated spot, or a spot where you feel a blemish developing, and left on for up to 12 hours. Since pregnancy has blessed me with the clearest skin of my life (I know, poor me), I had my husband test these blemish patches out. He put a couple on after completing his nighttime skincare routine and removed them in the morning. Honestly, we didn’t really notice a difference by the next day. Maybe this is a product that needs to be applied for a couple nights in a row to work properly, but we weren’t able to test it out consistently since he works overnight shifts a few times a week. So, I wouldn’t rule this one out completely—plus, it’s definitely worth a try for only $6. Everyone’s skin is different, so maybe it’ll work for you. I think this might be a great product to just keep handy in your purse, especially when traveling.

Price review: For 24 patches, $6 is more than reasonable. And again, a 20% off code is included, bringing it down to under $5. Even better.

holding oh baby box

9. Baby Mama Maternity Tank | Oh Baby Boxes | $25

This “Baby Mama” tank top is an adorable addition to any mama-to-be’s wardrobe. I love the font and the simplicity—I also love that it actually fits my 8-month belly! It is super flattering, which is hard to come by this late in pregnancy. I usually feel like a whale in most of my old clothes, so it was a nice change of pace to throw this tank top on and think “Dang, I look good!” Not to mention, it works great in the fall weather with a nice cardigan layered on top.

Price review: $25 for a screen-printed tank top is a little much in my book. I think $15 sounds about right, and this is what similar products tend to be priced according to a quick Amazon search.

Cost Breakdown

And because I am a number-cruncher, let’s analyze some price totals, shall we?

Box price per month (depends on subscription plan):

  • Month-to-month subscription: $39.99

  • 3 month prepay: $37.99

  • 6 month prepay: $35.99

Total product prices (according to the guide): $132.99

What I think it’s all worth: $98.99

Final Thoughts…

So, is the Oh Baby Boxes subscription service worth it? Absolutely! I loved spending a couple weeks trying out all these products, and I think a pregnant mama could always use some extra pampering! In my opinion, there is nothing more relaxing than taking a break from the demands of day-to-day life and indulging in a bit of self-care, whether that is a bath, face mask, or whatever else calms your mind. Plus, they threw in a few non-beauty items to balance it out, which I like. Furthermore, I think this would make an amazing gift for the mama-to-be in your life, whether it’s just one box or a subscription to last their entire pregnancy! Plus, under $40 a month for about $100 worth of products is a total steal.
