Grad School Update

Today is the first day of my graduate program, so I thought I'd give a little update on where I am in my college career. This is mostly for friends and family, but hey, everyone is welcome to read on!

Last summer I was enrolled in an Early Childhood Education master's program through the University of North Dakota. After one semester (my first 4.0 semester in the history of college, I might add! *pats self on back*), I decided that ECE was definitely not the right route. I do want to end up working with kids/adolescents, but toddlers and preschoolers are just a bit too young. A couple months later I found the perfect program, but unfortunately it only begins each fall, so I would have to wait an entire year before taking another stab at grad school.

Fast forward a year (and a grueling admittance process), and I am just starting my perfect grad program *fingers crossed*: a M.S. in Psychology with an emphasis in School Psychology from Fort Hays State University in Kansas. I would just like to insert a side note that it is difficult finding the perfect program that is 100% online since Austin is in the Air Force and we can't exactly move anywhere for school. So serious props to all service members and military spouses who have completed entire degrees online.

Since I eagerly (read: ignorantly) chose the full-time track (while still working as a full-time paraprofessional...), this is a one-year program, followed by FHSU's one- or two-year Education Specialist (Ed.S.) program, followed by a one year internship. For those wondering, an Ed.S. degree is basically a step up from a master's, but not quite a doctorate. Sort of like an optional middle ground for those wanting to advance their education past the master's level.

So in short, I will have my master's degree next August, but will be far from done. College survival tips will be much appreciated, as well as favorite Crockpot recipes because there is no way in hell I'll have time to cook actual meals from here on out! Undoubtedly, me in a couple weeks:
